Half-Lit World from 'Half-Lit World' 7"
Basilisk - from 'Ill Winds From Outopia' LP

Schifosi are a down-tuned punk/crust band from Melbourne. They formed around 2002 and are still going strong with some recent international tours under their wings. The band lineup has remained fairly unchanged since the start, the only difference being the addition of Jacquie on second guitar in 2003.

MEMBERS
Kate - vocals
Bart - bass, vocals
Tim - drums, vocals
Jacquie - guitar
Tristan - guitar

Tim also plays in fellow Melbourne bands Pisschrist and ABC Weapons, and Jacquie played in the recently defunct Terra Firma. Bart also plays in ABC Weapons.

They embarked on a successful six week tour of the US in 2005, with the bands Countdown to Armageddon and Kakistocracy. They also recently toured New Zealand this year with Scab.

They are planning to release a new 12" in the near future on Alerta AntiFascista, so look out for some shows to coincide with that. It will also be available on CD and tape.

Flyers and Flyers again

July 28th 2006 10:16
The Shirkers
A flyer for a Shirkers show. Not much is really going on in this flyer, but I'm sure it still did the job. The Shirkers were a late 90s/early 00s old school-ish punk band, members have gone on to play in the bands Stereo City, Brand Disloyalty, Staying at Home and ROFL, amongst others.

Meanderthal
Meanderthal were an indie/rock-punk band from Sydney, also late 90s. Some of the artwork on this flyer looks like Glen Smith's (of Lawnsmell fame) but I'm not really sure if it is or not.

Hardcore
Hardcore Superbowl... I'm not really sure if this was affiliated with the Hardcore BBQ of the year before, or the subsequent Hardcore super-extravaganza shows put on by Resist in recent years, but this is pretty much the equivelent of said Resist Records-sponsored Hardcore shows (the most recent of which took place last weekend). Strangely, the Hardcore shows back then mostly had hardcore punk bands playing them, rather than the terrible metal bands they seem to attract now.

Nancy Vandal
This was a weird show... it took place at the PCYC in Penrith and featured local metal legends Cryogenic and popular punk act Nancy Vandal as the headliners. Hassle Brigade were the 'big local support', and Speckled Foam and Skeptic scored the opening slots by winning a local band comp. There's something about band-comp related shows that just seem sort of sleazy. I dunno.

Well, if you live in Australia and don't know who the Living End are then I'd hazard a guess that you're current address is: No.1 Under The Rock, Under The Rocksville.

The Dead Walk! are a fairly popular hardcore band from straight outta Newcastle. They formed in 2004 and got their name from a healthy love of zombie films.

Heifer are a heavy and rocking five-piece band based in Sydney. They've played a fair bit around the western suburbs in their time, and have been gigging pretty steadily for about ten years now.

Mach Pelican are a great Ramones-loving pop-punk band. They're instantly identifiable by being the most Japanese punk band in Australia and also by their matching leather jackets.

The Bigots

July 11th 2006 14:08
The Bigots are a Canberra-based two-piece who play dirty, rockin' punk. They are Tim (Vocals, bass) and Joel (drums). I think Joel recently moved to Melbourne so they're pretty much kaput at the moment.

Anyway, they were around for a while and I did this interview with Tim when they played at the Pink Palace in Melbourne last year. I'm in bold

Eskimo Joe

July 10th 2006 09:45
I don't think anyone really ever saw Eskimo Joe coming. I mean, they're so big now... their latest single 'Black Fingernails, Red Wine' is everywhere at the moment. I remember going to uni in 1998 and having nothing to do on my lunchbreak, so I went up to the student bar and Eskimo Joe were playing in there and I was virtually the only person watching them! They were playing punk-ish songs about coco pops and monkeys and their biggest song at the time was recent Triple J hit 'Sweater'. Two years later, whilst I was still at uni, they were playing a somewhat bigger show (one that took place at night and people had to pay to see) and whilst standing outside myself and a friend convinced some random girl that our other friend with us was the drummer from Eskimo Joe. She got really excited. There's no real point to that little anecdote, I just wanted to relate it because it was mildly relevant.

Flyers #3

July 5th 2006 12:15
Some more old flyers from the archive...

Trashed
Trashed '97. I'm not really sure if there was a Trashed '96 or a Trashed '98, but all these festivals seem to have to put the year next to their name as if they think they're gonna be around forever. Most of the bands on this flyer (and all the other flyers too) are gone now.

Detox Unit

July 3rd 2006 11:26
There's not really much I can write about Detox Unit... they're an old Western Sydney ska/punk band who broke up around, oh shit, I dunno - probably 1999 or 2000 at the latest. I don't have reference points to read up on them at so I'm writing this strictly from memory.

The Sharp
This is the Sharp
I'm a little late on The Sharp bandwagon, I only picked up their greatest hits compilation just last week (after months of searching) and am truly appreciating their greatness for the first time now. The band broke up well over ten years ago, so there's very little in the way of MP3s and the like to be found on the internet, however there is this, if you want to hear them...

The Sharp - Where Am I Now? - video of their last live TV performance. Follow link to watch at YouTube
