Music Australia - February 2008

It was a case of Australian rock reuniting on the weekend as they celebrated one of the most respected of them all, former ACDC frontman, Bon Scott.
Last year the royalty of the Oz rock industry joined forces to raise money to create a statue of the singer to pay tribute – fast forward 12 months and on Sunday 24 February the bronze life size statue of the rocker was unveiled to a rockin’ crowd at the Claremont Showgrounds in Western Australia.
Aussie audiences loved Bon Scott, he embodied the spirit of ‘Oz rock’ and thus he was a fitting choice to be honoured in such a way.
It wasn’t a political decision or a monetary one, rather, it was the fans of Bon Scott and ACDC who wanted to see a statue erected in his hometown of Fremantle in his honour – and now their wish has become a reality.

Unveiling the statue was a big job – and the best in the Australian rock industry joined forces to make sure it happened in the best way possible – ‘let there be rock’ – and there was.
The Screaming Jets kicked off the concert taking audiences on a journey through their biggest hits including ‘Better’, ‘Helping Hand’ and ‘October Grey’, before Rose Tattoo fronted by Angry Anderson rocked the stage in a stellar performance.
The Angels Band, featuring the original Brewster brothers, Buzz Bidstrup and Chris Bailey, continued the rock fashion before the newly reunited Noiseworks took the audience on a trip down memory lane with their hits ‘Hot Chilli Woman’, ‘Touch’ and ‘Take Me Back’.
But it was The Party Boys all-star line-up that stole the show, with consummate musicians such as Kevin Borich, Randall Waller, Mark Evans (former ACDC bassist), Dave Evans (former ACDC lead singer), Paul Christie (Mondo Rock), Alan Lancaster and John Coghlan (Status Quo) joining forces to rock out to ACDC classic hits.

The full on performance at the end of ‘Long Way to the Top’ as the statue was unveiled was a moving experience and the audience erupted in deafening cheers seeing their iconic immortised in bronze.
Rock on!
