MusicJournoFollowing the closure of Johnos Blues Bar and a stack of other live music venues in Cairns, a community group known as PALM - People Advocating Live Music formed and placed their message firmly to the conservative Regional Council before looming 08 elections, to the public and to musicians & venues. There was considerable interest , media attention and impact back in March -June 2008 (Pro - cultural arts council was elected!)
The message got out, but something more practical was needed to get the music & live performance gigs out there too.
In January 2009, www.entertainmentcairns.com was born , a site that allows performers and cultural arts exponents to profile and promote their talents, their gigs and create a bigger audience and more bookings for gigs. Its happening already and we have only just started!!
With no financial backing, much has already been achieved. But so much more is to come when we cross promote, get selected advertsiers and sponsors on board and co-operate with performers, venues and promoters to develop the site in coming months and years.
Cairns has always been a hot spot for talent, considering its size. Maybe its the tropical lush environment and what "grows there to cultivate creativity". We don't know for sure, but we are endeavouring to turn around all the doom and gloom stories -not the latest ecomonic downturn stuff but the more prevalent "live music is dying" messages we hear about around the world. Resurgence is coming too isn't it? And there are so many great musos and people making sure it will flourish.
