Chaz. H. Scally

June 14th 2006 07:41
Chaz. H. Scally are some Penrith dudes who have been keeping skacore alive (pretty much all on their lonesome) in Western Sydney for the last couple of years. They're the perfect mix between hardcore and ska, they don't disservice one side in favour of the other - they keep it REAL yo!

Chaz H. Scally were born out of the demise of Titan Outfits (another Penrith ska-core band, albeit one with a horn section). Trumpet player Dengy swapped to guitar duties and guitarist/vocalist Ged and drummer Baker enlisted the help of school friend Vella on bass to form a tighter, heavier continuation of what they had been doing in the Outfits. Where the Outfits sounded mismatched in their mix of hardcore and ska, Chaz. H. pushed it further and got everything sounding right. The addition of a second guitar and the decision not to continue with a horn section also helped focus the band, and probably also led to them developing a sound that was a lot heavier.

Ged on influences: "Everything from Bob Marley to Slayer really, but then there are bands like the Unseen, Against All Authority and Choking Victim who wer big influences early on. Link 80 would have to have been the life-changing influence".

Band Members...
Ged Bellman - Vocals, Guitar
Brett Dengate (Dengy) - Guitar, vocals
Chris Baker - Drums, vocals
Michael Vella - Bass, vocals

Ged has also previously played drums in earlier Penrith ska-related band 'Badtown Allstars' (also known as the Oi-Skas before that, not to be confused with Oi-Ska from Melbourne).

Chaz H. Scally take their name from a person credited on the bottom of a map or poster of some sort in a South Penrith High School classroom. They have played in Canberra, Wollongong, Newcastle and Brisbane and are currently planning a 'four states in four weekends' tour for later this year.
