10 GREAT CLASSIC AUSSIE ROCK SONGS
I have no taste when it comes to music. If something sounds good, I consider it good. I don't really care if it's Angry Anderson or the Wiggles. This is because I am an amazingly rad dude. So here are some of my favourite rock songs.
ANGRY ANDERSON - BOUND FOR GLORY
This was a song that featured on a charity album of some kind to help raise money for the para-olympics in 1992. For some reason I didn't even hear this song until a few months ago. It's so fucking good. I can listen to it over and over for hours... it makes me want to jump up on tables and shit.
MIDNIGHT OIL - BACK ON THE BORDERLINE
I could probably fill up this list with just Oils songs but I'll limit myself to one. This song from the popular 'Head Injuries' album goes really great when you crank it up and wait for the anthemic shout out... "I'm back on the border-lineeee!"
THE CHOIRBOYS - NEVER GONNA DIE
I've always had a kneejerk dislike for The Choirboys. Maybe it was due to hearing 'Run to Paradise' about a million times too many. This song though, it starts out with a mosey and some iconic 80s-style aussie rock crooning. The chorus is uplifting. I love it - probably because I haven't heard it a million times!
MENTAL AS ANYTHING - LIVE IT UP
Very 80s, very pop. This song is probably best remembered for it's inclusion on the Crocodile Dundee soundtrack. 'Live it up' has some great lyrics and it's 80s-ness gives me goosebumps because I'm such an 80s kid.
BOOM CRASH OPERA - ONION SKIN
I rediscovered this song just recently. It has a great early 90s jauntiness to it that makes me want to tease my hair like Robert Smith out of the Cure, wear a loose collared shirt, and then jump up and down on my bed.
HUNTERS AND COLLECTORS - HOLY GRAIL
Now this is an anthem! Great lyrics... I love a good story. This is everything a good song should be.
THE SHARP - SCRATCH MY BACK
The Sharp were so underappreciated. Every song on The Sharp Single File CD I have has the makings of what I think a number 1 hit should sound like. This is the song that got lampooned by the Late Show (and features on the Late Show's DVD), but it's a great song in it's own right and very catchy too.
MEN AT WORK - BE GOOD JOHNNY
I love the sound of this song... the music is tops. The chorus is catchy... all choruses should be this catchy. There's attitude in this song too and it sounds very Australian, despite the Scottish guy singing it!
PAUL KELLY - DUMB THINGS
Like a lot of songs in this list, this is a massive cliche. It's just so great though. The fact that I've heard this song hundreds of times on both Triple M and WS FM and that I'm still not sick of it (and still sing along to it) proves that it's a winner through and through.
LITTLE RIVER BAND - HELP IS ON THE WAY
And the final song is this! It was a massive hit across the world back in it's day, and I think the Little River Band too often get forgotten by Australians when it comes to our own homemade rock. The harmonising vocals that featured here were seldom matched by any other band, and this song has great guitar and bass work to boot.
Anyway, that's ten. Did I miss any?

Earache Hotel
I could names hundreds of classic Aussie Rock songs but I'd be here all day. Anything by the Hoodo Gurus is great although I'm sick of hearing their songs promoting the Rugby and Thank God You're Here.
Glad you included Angry but would have to say I prefer Rose Tattoo tunes like "We Can't Be Beaten" and "Bad Boy for Love" (gotta love that dirty slide guitar).
