Cog are a heavy and rockin' three piece from Bondi, Sydney, who formed in 1998. They played all around Sydney for a few years before being picked up by TPA (a Sydney-based booking agency) in 2001, which led to some extensive touring of the east coast. During this time they also picked up a four month residency at the Excelsior Hotel in Sydney and a one month residency at the Espy in Melbourne.
In 2002 they released the 'Just Visiting' EPs (originally planned as an album but instead released as Part 1 and Part 2) and scored a spot on the bill for the Big Day Out, as well as a much-coveted support for System of a Down at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney. They also continued touring the east coast a lot and won the 'Best Emerging Live Act in NSW' at the Australian Live Music Awards that year.

In 2003 they grabbed some sweet airplay on Triple J with their single 'Open Up' (a reworked John Lydon/PIL cover) and played the Falls Festival in Victoria. In 2004 they went to San Francisco to record their debut album with producer Sylvia Massy Shivy (who had done work with System of a Down, REM and Tool). On returning to Australia they toured the east coast once again.
In 2005 they sold out their first show at the Metro in Sydney and got to No. 1 on the Australian Independent charts with their debut album, 'The New Normal'. Two singles from this album also got into the Triple J Hottest 100. They also embarked on an extensive tour of New Zealand and Australia with Shihad, and played Homebake and the Big Day Out (again), as well as festivals in Melbourne and Perth.
They are currently working on a new album for release in 2007.
