Detox Unit
July 3rd 2006 11:26
There's not really much I can write about Detox Unit... they're an old Western Sydney ska/punk band who broke up around, oh shit, I dunno - probably 1999 or 2000 at the latest. I don't have reference points to read up on them at so I'm writing this strictly from memory.
Here's some MP3s (right click and save)...
Friday (Drinking on my Mind)
Insane
The band started under the name Carnage Flail, around 1995 or 1996, playing alternative music. They got a picture in the local paper, the Penrith Press I think, and a write up. The band changed from there into Scratch Habbit and I think this is around the time they became more punk/ska. At one point Craig McVea played in the band (he would later front the more hip-hop and metal orientated bands Clobassi and Fat Slinky, and now plays in a garage rock band called Lucy and the Pheremones).
MEMBERS
Checky - Vocals, bass
Laura - Drums, vocals
Deano - Guitar
Checky went on to play bass in super-popular pop punk band One Dollar Short, and also did vocals for a while with Columbia's Pain. Deano played guitar in Badanga after Detox Unit broke up (see Badanga entry of this blog). I don't know if Laura played in any other bands.
Scratch Habbit broke up around 1998, but reformed a year later as Detox Unit. They had one self-released EP 'Insane/Keeping Time', from which the aforementioned MP3s are taken).
