You are the Song My Enemy Sings
I don’t usually get to review albums because, well, independent Australian bands just don’t release them! Even at sixteen tracks this tight little number clocks in at around 25 minutes and leaves a great impression.
Dick Nasty are kind of hardcore-ish I guess, but they’re very talented and so they don’t really restrict themselves to anything… there are some percussive effects, unexpected tempo changes, and awesome Iron Maiden-ish guitar harmonising.
The vocals are very Australian, and the song titles are hilarious… “This Conquistador From El Salvador Aint No Fucking Matador”, “Faster Photocopying for the Military”, etc, etc. The opening track (the aforementioned Conquistador track) is a killer, and “I Turned into a Martini” is great too (I bet everyone mentions that ‘nananananana’ bit when they talk about it. Oh look, I just mentioned it too).
Anyway, at the risk of running this thing off the rails and underestimating the multitudes of other bands’ releases I haven’t heard, I’d say this album is a high point for independent Australian punk rock.
