Game Over - Pop Punk
June 6th 2006 07:33
Melbourne band Game Over are one of those pop-punk bands that everyone seemed to love in the mid to late 90s... there were a whole heap of bands of this style and it was around this time that Fat Wreck Chords and all the bands on that label (Lagwagon, NoFX, Diesel Boy, etc, etc) were getting a lot of exposure over here in Australia. It was only natural that we'd develop our own counterparts. Game Over are probably one of the more remembered of these bands.
Some MP3s (right click and save)...
High Hopes - from 'One Down' EP
Sci-Fi - from 'Shotgun' EP
(MP3s from MP3.com.au)
They formed in late 1995 and put together a 4 song demo tape with a view to using it to break in a singer. The band came together pretty quickly under the following lineup...
Dave O'Dwyer - Guitar
Elton Pinkster - Guitar
Paul Stanway - Bass
Dave Thorne - Drums
Adam Linden - Vocals
They brought out a mini-album/EP called 'One Down', which included popular song 'High Hopes'. They quickly rose in popularity and landed a slot on the 1998 Warped Tour - where Fletcher from Pennywise apparently smashed up their drumkit for some reason. They also managed to score tour supports with international bands such as Guttermouth, MXPX, No Fun At All, Avail, Lagwagon and Down by Law. They also did their own tours with fellow Australian bands 99 Reasons Why, Bantha Fodder, Crettins Puddle and 28 Days, and played at Snowfest 98 in Thredbo, The Falls Festival (also 1998) and Warped 1999.
In 1999 vocalist Adam decided to quit the band. He was replaced by Brad Young, with whom the band did a bunch of recordings that never saw release. Around 1999/2000 Dave Thorne and Elton Pinkster were in a serious accident involving the band's van and Elton almost died... I presume he was too injured to continue playing the guitar at the time as Ben Webster was recruited to play guitar after this happened.
From here Game Over were down but not out, they made a valiant effort to overcome their adversities and toured with Pennywise and Frenzal Rhomb, but after this the band kind of fell apart. I'm guessing they stopped around early 2001.
Paul Stanway switched from bass to guitar and went on to play in a band called Supercede (now called Andecite). Original vocalist Adam now sings for Sydney band Rex Banner.

Hello and congratulations to the L.A legal system for sentencing carjacker, coke addict and repeat drink driver Lindsay Lohan to 3 minutes jail time (her lawyers are confident they can cut that sentence in half).....................
Anyroad, the power drill, yet dripping with pop honey band NURSERY CRIMES are playing a nuclear blast of a show, a show that makes a pack of crazed bloodied wolves look like kittens in a tissue box..........at the ESPLANADE HOTEL in St Kilda, where the sea meets the syringes, on Saturday October 13th, on at around 11.30pm supports: ROOTBEER and ANTISKEPTIC and THE LOSERS. I think this may be the last of our reunion shows, so do not miss out, or some guys will come round and mess you up bad.
Also congratulations for the three life terms handed down to Peter Dupas yesterday, although his lawyers are confident they can also cut that sentence in half as well, so he may be due for release in 2120, what a bloody outrage!
-have a good time, ALL the time-
David.
