Kampei – Back to the Day Job
There are 8 songs squeezed onto this debut from Kampei, and all snappy punk/pop ditties that are easy to like too. It’s hard to pick favourites, but I will anyway… “Credibility”, “Closed Down” and “Back to the Day Job”. They mix it up a bit with a few jazzy bits and stuff like that, and they’re definitely their own band – Australian-sounding female vocals are hard to come by in the genre and it’s not all power chords and that kind of shit either, so yeah I like it heaps. The lyrics also cover a wide range of topics from the serious (band’s who jump from trend to trend) to the anecdotal (“Karaoke King”) and the farcial (“Under Suspicion”, I assume it’s not based on fact!) The CD’s not as good as the band are live (what is these days?), but it’s close enough to own.
