Rex Banner and singer part ways!
November 22nd 2006 02:39
Sydney melodic fast punkcore dudes, Rex Banner, have parted ways with their singer Adam. When I say 'parted ways', I pretty much mean they kicked him out. Obviously, there are personal reasons and reasons of difference or whatever that are between him and the band, but with all that aside, it's a real shame as Adam was a great singer and he suited them to a T.
Adam previously sung in late 90s Melbourne pop-punk band Game Over, of which I kind of felt Rex Banner had become a 21st century evolution/extension of.
Rex Banner are a band who had been jamming togethe for quite some time before they finally found an ideal singer in the shape of Adam. Rex Banner started out with quite a few different members, and various other Simpsons-related band names, influenced by bands like Strung Out, and spent a great deal of time in rehearsal becoming the band they are now.
Through the wonders of the internet they hooked up with Adam early this year (or perhaps earlier, I don't really know), Adam was overseas at the time - very much an ex-pat - but was about to come on home to Australia. Anyway, to cut a long story short, the band and the singer came together and the end result was magic. The band finally had a frontman, they were talented guys and pretty tight, and Adam's vocals were perfect for the sound.
They started playing shows around Sydney and have gotten quite a following in the last six months. I don't think it's much of an exaggeration to say that they're quite popular. But what's going to happen now that Adam's out? Who can they possibly get to fill his shoes? Will a new singer also mean a new sound? Will the band be able to retain their popularity?
'm sure the band will continue, they'd been around for a while before Adam came on the scene, and I'm sure they won't have any trouble finding a new singer - their recent popularity has given them a lot of exposure and I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who'd love to jump into the vacant position. But a vocalist can be a hard thing to replace. One thing the band has going for it was that they haven't really released anything with Adam singing on it (aside from a demo), so when they do finally get around to recording a proper release it will be - for many people who hear the band for the first time then - a new start.
Adam's still got the Signals, a reggae/rocksteady/ska band that he sings for, so I say good luck to him. He has a great voice and I'm sure he'll keep on rocking. Good luck also to Rex Banner, I'm sure they'll keep on rocking out too, guess we'll have to wait and see what the future holds for their fans!
