Rhubarb

Rhubarb! Remember those guys? I pretty much only really remember them from their big Triple J hit 'Exerciser', but they've been busy beavers ever since and have built up a respectable fanbase. Amazingly, the band were able to give up their day jobs after their initial Triple J success and have been keeping the dream alive ever since, partially thanks to their own independent record label Toupee Records.
Rhubarb are a Brisbane four-piece who got discovered by Triple J via winning the Triple J Unearthed competition in 1999 with their independent single 'Zero'. Their follow-up, 'Exerciser' was a huge hit wih the J's and managed to get into the Top 20 of Triple J's Hottest 100 for that year. The band was formed about four years earlier in 1995 by brothers Steve and Dave Drinkall with their Brazilian cousin playing bass. I think one of the brothers might have switched to bass eventually as Caleb James took over on guitar. I'm not sure what happened to their cousin.
MEMBERS
Steve Drinkall - Vocals, guitar
Dave Drinkall - Bass
Caleb James - Guitar
Ian Buchanan - Drummer
The band followed up 'Exerciser' with their debut album and a few more singles and have been grooving along ever since. It probably helps that guitarist Caleb James is a sound engineer/producer of some sort and is the master in charge when it comes to recording. And, with the band having set up their own label in Toupee Records, they've been able to keep it all inhouse from their beginnings to today. Their label also helps put out releases for other bands too, including Mayfly, Antiskeptic and the Teapot Dome Scandal.
After their initial successes Rhubarb played the Big Day Out, Offshore and the Falls Festival, and scored supports with all sorts of bands (including Creed, You Am I, The Cruel Sea and Spiderbai). Their first album, 'Kamikaze' has sold over 15 000 copies.
Rhubarb released their third album late last year and toured Australia to promote it.
