Filmclip Banned!
August 21st 2006 06:37
This is a film clip by internationally famous Australian electro outfit Snog, which has allegedly been banned by the ABC.
You see, previous filmclips by Snog have all been played on the late night music program 'Rage' on the ABC. Over at themusic.com.au it's being said that the ABC won't allow it to be played due to 'political content'. A messageboard at another music site (www.thedwarf.com.au) features a post with a statement from the band itself, asserting that Rage won't play the offending clip.
The clip features a trio of dudes dressed up as George W. Bush, Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden larking about in Melbourne, snorting cocaine, cavorting in front of oil refineries and eventually blowing up the Crown Casino. Rave Magazine (www.ravemagazine.com.au) relays a quote from the ABC itself on the matter, "It’s purely a content issue to do with what can and can’t be broadcast under the charter.”, citing the use of the Crown Casino as the main reason why the clip can't be played and that if all shots identifying the casino were removed the clip would be reconsidered.
However (and this is why I say it's been allegedly banned), the ABC website says that the clip was played last night on Rage (and I can't verify this as I didn't watch it), so I don't know what's going on now... I don't know if it's been resubmitted in an edited form (likely) or if the ABC caved in (unlikely).
Anyway, thanks to the wonders of the internet, we can all watch it anyway - and it's quite amusing. Viva la youtube!
