Spilt Milk

Hello! This blog is about Australian bands... that can mean anything from Midnight Oil or the Easybeats right through to, say, The Focus or Game Over. It doesn't matter if the band is still going or not, if there's anything to say about it I'll say something about it. Some of this will just be reminiscence of bands that came and wen't. Like today's band... Spilt Milk (1994-1999).
Spilt Milk were a Western-Sydney based punk band that started in 1994... the original lineup consisted of Matty Albert (guitar, vocals) and three other guys - Warwick McGee-Wright, Daniel Paterson and a guy called Steve. Everyone except for Matty left or was kicked out sometime not long after formation (teething days I guess). Marty Durkan came on board on bass and Lee Graham joined 6 months after that on drums. After another 6 months, Lee was replaced by Damien Elliot... this was the most stable lineup and the one that I'd think most people probably remember when they think of Spilt Milk...
Matty Albert - Vocals, guitar
Marty Durkan - bass, vocals
Damien Elliot - drums, vocals
Adam Check (Checky, previously bassist and vocalist for the band Detox Unit) joined as a second guitarist in 1998 and left about ten months later... the band only lasted another 3 months after that, breaking up in 1999.
In their five years Spilt Milk brought out two demo tapes.
"Justin Time" (1997)
1. The Simpsons (Who Gives a Fuck about O.J. Simpson)
2. Sandwich
3. Kissing Coustins (Incest)
"It Would Suck to be a Duck" (1998)
1. Service station food
2. Wanker
3. Exploit me
4. Nah fuck it
They also had some various tracks on comps and stuff, at least one of which I remember being the song 'Sex Me Hard'.
They played a lot of all-ages shows in Western Sydney, a lot of pub shows in Sydney, and toured Melbourne twice. Says Matty, when asked about his time in Spilt Milk... "It still spins me out that after all this time people ask me about this band, ask me if we could reform and even yell the name out at me in the street."
Chances of Spilt Milk reforming for a one-off show are fifty/fifty I reckon. Both Matty and Damien are up for it, and I think I've heard that Marty is up for it - the only thing holding him back is that he lives in Townsville or somewhere far away like that.
Matty now plays in grunge/rock band My Therapy and hardcore band Columbia's Pain. After Spilt Milk broke up both him and Damien went on to form Unpaid Debt, though Damien is the only original member of UD left. Checky (second guitarist) went on to play bass in One Dollar Short and did a stint on vocals in Columbia's Pain, and Damien also played drums in Columbia's Pain for a while.

'It Would Suck to be a Duck' has got to be the best name for an album ever.
