Music...
The Porkers - two songs can be heard here, on their myspace.
The Porkers were formed in Newcastle, 1987, by singer Pete Cooper as The Pork Hunts, playing 2nd wave ska - after a fashion, inspired by the lack of said style in Australia at the time. The band became the Porkers around 1990, and kind of dissolved shortly afterwards.
ORIGINAL MEMBERS
Pete Cooper - vocals
Phil Barnard - sax
Richard Puxty - guitar
Tomi Kefichek - bass
Donny - drums
Pete went overseas where he witnessed bands like the Mighty, Mighty Bosstones and the Voodoo Glowskulls playing ska-core, a souped up combination of fast punk and ska, and on returning to Australia he decided to reform the band. The result was probably the most popular homegrown ska band Australia has ever seen.
The Porkers have had many members over the years, around about thirty in total, so I'm not going to list them. You can see a full list on the entry for The Porkers on wikipedia.org, or on The Porkers website (see bottom of page for link). The most interesting member was probably The Porkman, an anonymous man in a Mexican wrestling mask who would dance, crowd surf, provide back up vocals and generally rev up the crowd. He was mostly present around the time of The Porkers second album, 'Hot Dog Daiquiri', from 1997 to 1999.
